How to use AI roleplay between human coaching sessions.
A practice loop between human sessions. The coach stays in the middle.
AI roleplay between human coaching sessions is a practice loop: rehearse the conversation you will have this week, then take what you learned back to a human coach. It is not a replacement for the coach. The human session sets the aim. The practice surface burns the reps. The next human session looks at what still will not come out of your mouth.
For what AI coaching is and is not, use AI coaching. For a single rehearsal, use how to practice a difficult conversation with AI. This page is the space between two human sessions.
Practice is what happens in the week the coach cannot attend.
The loop, not the tool.
Human session, one named conversation, rehearsal, real conversation, notes back to the coach. That is the whole architecture. If you skip the real conversation, you have a hobby. If you skip the coach, you have a chatbot with no one to notice you are rehearsing the wrong fight.
The room around the loop is still a format choice. Workshop vs cohort vs 1:1 comes first. Roleplay does not replace any of those containers.
What to do after a human session.
Pick one conversation, not a competency
The 1:1 on Thursday. The peer who keeps missing. The skip-level you are avoiding. If you cannot name the person and the week, you are browsing scenarios.
Rehearse the opening and the ask
Most people fail the first 90 seconds. Practice those, then the silence after the other person reacts. You do not need a full script.
Write three notes for the coach
What you kept softening. What you overplayed. What you still will not say. That is the homework, not a transcript dump.
Boon's Practice Space is built for that rehearsal. Use it when the next skill is a conversation. Do not use it as a second weekly coach.
What to bring to the next session.
Bring what happened in the real conversation, not the AI score. Did you say the sentence? Did you fold? Did the other person surprise you? The coach works on the live data. That is also how you later tell whether behavior changed: evidence lives outside the practice tool.
What this is not.
It is not a second weekly coach. It is not a prompt pack for feedback. It is not the days after an AI training workshop (that is what happens between AI training sessions). If the company-wide problem is AI adoption, that program is ADAPT, which still uses human coaching between live blocks.
Trust and the practice room.
Tell people what the practice tool stores. Do not borrow the human-session sentence from coaching confidentiality unless it is actually true for that tool. Human 1:1 through SCALE is a different room.
One loop, one coach. If L&D assigns a practice tool with no human session attached, you have built a toy. Attach it to a coach or do not launch it as coaching.
See the practice loop on a real conversation.
Try a rehearsal in Practice Space, then we can talk about attaching it to SCALE rather than running it as a side hobby.
Open Practice SpaceFrequently asked questions
How do you use AI roleplay between human coaching sessions?
After a coaching session, pick one conversation you will actually have. Rehearse it on a practice surface. Take the notes (what you avoided, what landed) into the next human session. Do not turn the AI into a second coach with a second agenda.
Can AI roleplay replace 1:1 coaching?
No. Roleplay is reps. A human coach holds context, challenge, and accountability over months. AI is useful when the next skill is a conversation you can safely fail in private.
Is this the same as practicing a difficult conversation with AI?
That tutorial is how to run one rehearsal. This page is how rehearsal sits between two human sessions so the coach is not starting from zero every time.
What should you not put into an AI roleplay tool?
Anything you would not put in a work doc: medical details, accusations you have not tested, another person's private HR file. The confidentiality rules for a human session and a practice tool are not automatically the same.
Where does this sit next to workshops and cohorts?
Roleplay is not a container for the whole program. It is the work between containers. Pick the room first (workshop vs cohort vs 1:1), then add practice.
